Abstract
Hydrogen spillover, a common active species migration phenomenon, has drawn tremendous attention in the past few years. The spilled atomic hydrogen can not only participate in catalytic reactions as reactants, but also induce the support to form defects or phase transitions, thus adjusting the energy band and improving catalytic performance. As a result, hydrogen spillover has broad application potential in heterogeneous catalysis and hydrogen production. However, a clear summary of reaction mechanism and important applications of hydrogen spillover is still lacking. This review focuses on the recent state-of-art progress of hydrogen spillover. First, different types of hydrogen spillover is comprehensively expounded. Second, several significant structural models of hydrogen spillover are briefly introduced. Then the typical applications of hydrogen spillover phenomenon are clearly summarized, including catalytic hydrogen production, carbon dioxide hydrogenation, hydrogenation of organic compounds and hydrogen storage. In the end, we summarize the recent status and future perspectives of hydrogen spillover, aiming to provide some new ideas for the design and application of hydrogen spillover.
