Abstract
•Carbon foams with nitrogen content of 1–13 at % were prepared and studied for CO2.•Both nitrogen content and narrow ultra-micropores contributed to CO2 uptake.•Increased nitrogen content resulted in a smaller CO2 uptake due to low microporosity.•Carbon foam with highest nitrogen content revealed the best CO2/N2 selectivity.•Nitrogen-doped carbon foams are reversible with weak CO2 – carbon interactions.
