Non-thermal plasma assisted catalytic nitrogen fixation with methane at ambient conditions

•Plasma driven catalytic N2 fixation with CH4 was investigated thoughtfully.•Almost 17 % N2 conversion and 7% NH3 yield were achieved at a plasma power of 7.36 W.•The Cu/SiO2 catalyst displayed a high stability over 12 h of the reaction.•Surface reactions were significantly tailored by plasma-catalyst synergisms.•Unfold novel directions for plasma driven N2 fixation to valuable products.
