Effect of platy gangue minerals in sulfide flotation: Part 2: Mechanisms

•Novel froth sampling experiments were conducted to explain non-standard degree of entrainment curves.•High drag experiments illustrated role of drag in increased transport of platy particles.•Drag-drainage balanced experiments illustrated the slower drainage of coarse platy gangue as particle size approached the size of the froth plateau borders.
