Machine learning models to predict the tunnel wall convergence

•Six popular and reliable ML models were optimized by JSO to predict tunnel wall convergence.•142 tunnel convergence data from highway tunnels were utilized to establish prediction model.•The JSO-RF model has superior predictive performance than other hybrid models.•The internal friction angle of rock mass is the most important parameter for predicting tunnel wall convergence.
