Changes in the bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity in red-fleshed dragon fruit during its development

•Red-fleshed dragon fruit is a promising food with functional appeal.•The effect of fruit development stages in the contents of bioactive compounds was studied.•The contents of bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity increased, except for vitamin c.•Catechin was the predominant compound followed by vanillin.
