摘要
Sarcoidosis is a systemic disease with a wide range of clinical manifestations and outcomes based on the organs affected. The prevalence of cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) continues to rise, owing, in part, to advances in cardiac imaging that have resulted in increased recognition of the disease in patients with or at risk for heart failure (HF). This has led to a recent explosion of published registry-based data surrounding its epidemiology. 1 Lehtonen J Uusitalo V Pöyhönen P Mäyränpää MI Kupari M Cardiac sarcoidosis: phenotypes, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Sex and Race Differences in Cardiac Sarcoidosis Presentation, Treatment and OutcomesJournal of Cardiac FailureVol. 29Issue 8PreviewDemographic factors have been shown to impact sarcoidosis prevalence and outcomes. A recent study found that sex and race are highly associated with sarcoidosis-related mortality in the United States, with Black females having the highest rates.1 Epidemiological data from the U.S. suggests that the prevalence of sarcoidosis is more than 3 times more common in Black individuals compared to white individuals and is more common in females than in males.2 Some studies have shown that Black individuals are more likely to have severe multisystem disease, whereas white individuals are more likely to have pulmonary sarcoidosis or erythema nodosum, which portends a better prognosis.
