Effects of a Preoperative Carbohydrate Load on Postoperative Recovery in Children: A Randomised, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial

Preoperative carbohydrate loading in adults have shown promising results in reducing postoperative discomfort.•What new information is contained in this article?In children, a carbohydrate load provides a more stable metabolic state at anaesthesia induction. However, adequate hydration might be sufficient to improve postoperative outcomes and reduce length of hospital stay.
