The demand for powerful ultrashort 1.3 μm pulses is getting much attention since telecommunication wave-lengths (1.3-1.8 μm) were found to be effective for multi-photon microscopy. Recently, optical parametric amplifiers pumped by a powerful ytterbium fiber laser have been developed and used for multi-photon microscopy.
