Coupling effects of soil and vegetation from an ecosystem service perspective

•Soil types, vegetation types, and ecosystem services (ESs) differed at each altitude.•Similarities/differences in ESs among different soil types were identified.•Vegetation may promote or inhibit soil ESs, depending on soil and vegetation types.•Optimal soil and vegetation combinations were determined from an ES perspective.•Detailed soil and vegetation management measures were developed for each altitude.
