Class III peroxidase genes in the moss Dicranum scoparium: Identification and abiotic stress induced expression analysis

•This is a report on Class III peroxidase genes (POD) in the moss Dicranum scoparium.•We identified 22 genes encoding PODs and cloned two for verification.•The physicochemical properties of these proteins were analysed in silico.•Specific genes were differentially upregulated by a variety of abiotic stresses.•Results indicated that PODs are important in the abiotic stress tolerance of the moss.
