Abstract
•Novel Cu Nicotinic acid MOF and Cu Imidazolate MOF were synthesised.•A > 24-fold improvement in Hydrolytic stability of Cu-centered MOF was achieved.•Switching from substitution to adsorption based mechanism for removing Pb(II).•A very high Pb(II) adsorption capacity of 492 mg/g and a desorption efficiency of 93 %.
