Test-retest reliability of ankle range of motion, proprioception, and balance for symptom and gender effects in individuals with chronic ankle instability

•Overall, the asymptomatic side had higher ICCs than the symptomatic side.•Weight-bearing Lunge Test had excellent reliability and showed a symptom effect.•Dynamic balance and ankle proprioception showed no difference between sides.•There was no gender effect in measures across the different assessments.
