Abstract
•We inferred a phylogeny for the Myrmeciinae using phylogenomic markers.•The island endemic Myrmecia apicalis dispersed from Australia to New Caledonia ∼ 14 Ma ago.•The social parasite Myrmecia inquilina speciated from its host in sympatry ∼ 4 Ma ago.•We propose minor changes to reconcile Myrmecia taxonomy with its evolutionary history.
