Biomimetic mineralization of calcium carbonate under synergistic regulation of Sr2+ and egg-white proteins

•Sr2+ is used to regulate the biomimetic mineralization of CaCO3.•Sr2+ has the potential to induce aragonite in the presence of egg-white protein.•Due to its larger ionic radius, the inducing ability is lower than that of Mg2+.•To decrease mineralization rate is favorable to the formation of aragonite.•To increase temperature is also favorable to the formation of aragonite.
