Abstract
•LPA is a potent fibrotic activator, whose signaling axis components are present in skeletal muscle isolated FAPs.•LPA induces FAPs activation characterized by increased proliferation, myofibroblasts markers, and ECM deposition.•Pharmacological inhibition of receptors LPA1 and LPA3 and the genetic deletion of LPA1 prevent LPA-induced FAPs activation.•LPA-LPA1 activates FAK phosphorylation, which controls the Hippo pathway and FAPs responses.•LPA-LPA1/FAK/Hippo pathway activates skeletal muscle FAPs, opening new attractive targets to fight fibrosis progression in muscle diseases.
