A thick cellular structural adhesive: Identification of its behavior under shear loading

•Core-skin effect highlighted in the microstructure of a thick cellular structural adhesive (TCSA).•Evaluation of the shear properties of a TCSA using the Arcan test and digital image correlation.•The macroscopic shear modulus and the maximum shear strain at failure of TCSA are mainly driven by macroscopic density which is not the case for the maximum shear stress at failure.
