•Long-term treatment with selenite induced microtubule reassembly in Jurkat cells.•Selenite activated cytosolic JNK in Jurkat cells，which is involved in the process of selenite-induced microtubule reassembly.•JNK-dependent microtubule reassembly protects against selenite-induced apoptosis.•TP53, MAPT and YWHAZ are three most confident candidates that link JNK to tubulin.
