Insights into the degradation of norfloxacin antibiotics on boron-doped diamond anode: Kinetics, pathways and mechanisms

•Electrochemical elimination of norfloxacin was systematically investigated on boron-doped diamond anode.•The predominant radical species during the anodic oxidation of NOR were identified.•DFT calculations were employed to predict probable attack locations of reactive radicals.•The toxicity evolution of the intermediates during the degradation process were evaluated.
