Milk and meat exploitation, autumn lambing and use of forest resources in Neolithic Corsican sheep farming systems (fifth to third millennia cal BC)

•Caprine demographic management suggests mixed milk and meat exploitation.•Sheep births included autumn lambing characteristic of Mediterranean husbandries.•Sheep fed on forest resources gathered at low/mid-altitude in winter.•Sheep fed on C4 plants in summer, possibly in coastal salt marshes.•A C4 signal in summer does not argue in favour of grazing on high-altitude pastures.
