Method based on the membrane theory for equivalence between arbitrarily shaped pressure pulse applied on circular plate and rectangular pressure pulse

•A load equivalent method for circular plate is proposed based on the membrane theory.•The effectiveness of the method is proved by numerical calculation.•The difference between the method and the Youngdahl's equivalent method is discussed.
