Numerical investigation of bed-to-tube heat transfer in a shallow fluidized bed containing mixed-size particles

•Bed-to-tube heat transfer in fluidized bed with mixed-size particles are simulated.•Average HTC increases nonlinearly with the proportion of small-size component.•Local HTC is improved by enlarging the size difference between components.•A modified heat transfer correlation for complex particle systems is proposed.
