Investigation on molecular cluster behavior and initiation of capillary condensation within nanoarrays

•Cluster behavior from adsorption to onset of capillary condensation is analyzed.•Two distinct liquid film growth paths are revealed by changing surface wettability.•Coalescence of molecular clusters induces the initiation of capillary condensation.•The adsorption and capillary condensation map with surface wettability is obtained.
