•The high-frequency voltage control is introduced to limit impact of wind turbines.•High-frequency voltage is modulated adaptively under asymmetrical faults.•Locate the fault with high-frequency single-ended data by least-square algorithm.•The proposed scheme can protect high-impedance faults with accuracy and speed.
