Utilization of imaging reports for management of suspected lumbar spinal stenosis in the Veterans Administration

•Most VA neurosurgeons have access to an on-site neuroradiologist.•Most of the imaging related to suspected lumbar spinal stenosis in the VA is read by a neuroradiologist.•Patterns of radiology report utilization vary widely amongst VA neurosurgeons.•Most VA neurosurgeons do not contact the neuroradiologist if they have significant differences in image interpretation with the radiology report.•VA neurosurgeons seldom participate in neuroimaging conferences where imaging is discussed with neuroradiologists.
