•Unravelling phenolic metabotypes after chronic cranberry consumption.•Plasma and urine phenolic metabolites after chronic cranberry intake were quantified.•Cranberry led to changes in plasma concentrations of (poly)phenol metabolites.•Three urinary metabotypes based on colonic phenolic metabolites were identified.•5-(3′,4′-Dihydroxyphenyl)-γ-valerolactones were relevant metabolites for metabotyping.•Metabotype allocation was well preserved after 12-week cranberry intervention.
