A novel photonic chemosensor for rapidly detecting synthetic dyes in orange juice using colorimetric and spectrophotometric methods

•A novel naked-eye device for the low-cost detection of synthetic dyes was developed.•An μPADs was suggested for the colorimetric monitoring of synthetic dyes.•Colorimetric recognition of azo dyes using AgNPr (as optical probe) was done.•Selective and sensitive monitoring of Tar and Sun was done successfully in real samples.•An innovative and reliable sensing approach was introduced for determining artificial dyes in orange juices.
