Veteran perspectives of epilepsy care: Impact of Veteran satisfaction, knowledge, and proactivity

•Patient-provider communication/relationship was associated with epilepsy knowledge and self-management.•Veterans with Drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) reported lower satisfaction and were less proactive than VWEs with epilepsy alone.•Veterans’ Self-reported measures of quality of care were broadly associated with satisfaction with care and epilepsy knowledge.•Black Veterans with epilepsy reported lower scores on epilepsy self-care knowledge compared to Whites.
