Fragility assessment of traditional wooden houses in Madagascar subjected to extreme wind loads

•Cyclone-induced damage of traditional wooden houses in east coastal regions of Madagascar were evaluated.•Field test methods were developed, and tests carried out to evaluate the strength of members and connections at two coastal study sites.•Uncertainties related to wind loads and structural properties are considered.•A wind fragility model is developed for these houses based on the performance of the M−T joints, wrapped connections and embedded columns.
