Electrocatalytic methane conversion to high value chemicals at ambient conditions

摘要
•The electrochemical pathway for methane conversion to high value-added products can potentially compete with old traditional processes as the amounts of renewable electricity continue to drop.•In this article, we have presented a simple synthesis technique for mesoporous pure rutile phase TiO2 and its modification with Pt nanoparticles and utilized it for methane oxidation electrochemical reaction.•Methane gas was adsorbed and effectively activated by Pt nanoparticles modified mesoporous rutile phase TiO2.•CH3OH and C2H5OH including small amount of propanol products are formed along with H2 gas using Pt/r-TiO2 at 1.5 V vs. Ag/AgCl electrode was detected as reaction products.•This suggested low-cost electrochemical partial oxidation of methane can leads to a new route for the synthesis of high value-added chemicals under mild conditions.
