Vitamin D as Chemopreventive Agent in Colorectal Neoplasms. A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Rationale: Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly appearing cancer in both sexes and the second in terms of mortality. Dietary patterns and lifestyle factors have been implicated in the development of colorectal cancer. Supplementation with vitamin D (Vit-D) might be a promising strategy due to its numerous roles in maintaining and regulating normal cellular functions. The aim of our study was to examine the role of Vit-D supplementation in the prevention of colorectal neoplasms.
