•Plant functional types (PFTs) response varies to climate change in terms of biomass.•Both shade-tolerant/-intolerant PFTs exhibit a high sensitivity to temperature.•Moderate shade-tolerant PFTs show high precipitation sensitivity.•Both productivity and respiration exhibit a high sensitivity to temperature.•Warming may increase respiration more than GPP, reducing C sequestration.
