•Nano Al2O3/GEVIPN composites exhibited excellent fracture toughness responses.•DSC analysis revealed the thermal behaviour of the neat and modified composites.•TEM analysis showed Al2O3 nanofiller morphology has a spherical shape structure.•Possible toughening mechanisms of experimented composites are demonstrated.•FTIR analysis revealed chemical restructuring of nano Al2O3/GEVIPN composites.
