Abstract
•A methanol plant model was designed and simulated with heat integration, aiming to save energy through the district heating network of Finland.•The plant manufacturing unit cost and the conversion of carbon dioxide were optimised through single-objective and multi-objective approaches.•An equivalent Langmuir-Hinshelwood-Hougen-Watson (LHHW) kinetic model to the Gibbs model was developed.•The general plant cost and profitability were analysed under optimal conditions.•Exponential values for various plant cost components in the cost-to-size model were estimated.
