Assessing knowledge, attitude and practice towards prostate cancer screening among males in Southwest Tanzania: A cross-sectional study

•Prostate cancer is common among men, and awareness about the disease can reduce associated deaths.•Low knowledge of prostate cancer screening and wrong perceptions about prostate cancer leads to poor screening practices.•Our study found that only 43.9% of respondents had knowledge of prostate cancer screening, and only 29.5% had a positive attitude towards screening. However, the majority expressed a willingness to be screened.•Age and practice towards prostate cancer screening were associated with knowledge of prostate cancer screening.•The study highlights the need to increase awareness of prostate cancer screening in Tanzania.
