229. Do Prescribed Psychostimulants Induce Manic Recurrence in Bipolar Disorder? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Clinicians are often hesitant to prescribe psychostimulants in bipolar disorder (BD) out of concern for recurrence of (hypo)mania. Notwithstanding, psychostimulants may be beneficial for various clinical presentations. Existing reviews have focused on the efficacy of these medications in BD or co-morbid ADHD. There is limited evidence; however, focussing on the safety of these medications in relation to mood destabilization. Our objective was the quantify the change in mania related symptoms in BD patients receiving psychostimulants compared to placebo.
