The motivation and pleasure deficits but not expressivity affects social functioning through cognitive function in male patients with schizophrenia: A structural equation model

•DS patients performed worser on all four cognitive domains and social functioning compared to non-DS patients.•Negative symptoms in schizophrenia are significantly associated with the poor cognitive and social function.•MAP but not EXP could affecte the social functioning by directly influencing and mediating effects of cognitive function.
