•The number of false positives cases after sacral neuromodulation therapy (FP ratio) in this study was 16%.•The occurrence of FP is not predictable by demographic characteristics.•FP seem to have worse symptoms and a lower general health status at baseline than true positives.•FP have a lower baseline 24h diuresis than TP, without drinking less.•There is a trend towards an increased diuresis, regardless of fluid intake, among FP after SNM.
