The tribocorrosion resistance of TiN+TiB /TC4 composite coatings and the synergistic strengthening effects of multi-level reinforcements

Abstract
The Ti-based composite coating of TiN + TiB /TC4 is successfully fabricated by laser cladding. The results show that the addition of BN promotes the in-situ formation of an elliptic TiN phase at the micron level and fibrous TiB phase at the nanometer level, forming a new structure of the hard TiN surrounded and pinned by coherent TiB. No obvious plastic deformation occurs with the increase of TiN and TiB phases, and the dense TiO2-MoO3 oxide film forms during tribocorrosion. The tribocorrosion rate is much reduced and drops to the lowest rate of 246.93 ± 14 µm/yr.
