Prospectively predicting naturalistic exposure to fitspiration and thinspiration in young women with disordered eating by leveraging an ecological momentary assessment design

•Fitspiration and thinspiration have been associated with eating disorder (ED) symptoms.•Few studies have examined who is most at risk for accessing ED-salient content.•Study prospectively predicted exposure to ED-salient content on Instagram.•ED pathology differentially predicted probability of exposure.•Novel methods include ecological momentary assessment and objective measurement of use duration.
