Skin Diseases and Prescribing Pattern of Medications in the Outpatient Dermatology Department in Najran Region Saudi Arabia

The purpose of this study is to know the prescribing pattern of physicians in skin disease in Najran region of Saudi Arabia. In this retrospective study, informations related to the type of skin disease, medications prescribed by physicians, between March 2022 to August 2022 from dermatology department were collected. Out of 601 patients those were included in the study, 184(30.61%) were male and 417(69.38%) were female. There was a significant difference between (p = 0.004) the mean age of the females (28.25 +/- 10.71 years) and the males (31.20 +/- 13.95 years). It is observed that acne with (47.75%) was the most common dermatological disorder followed by dermatitis (21.4%). Retinoid is the most common class of drug prescribed for both gender (23.98%) followed by antibiotics (22.24%), average number of drug per prescription in our study comes to 2.77. Most of the prescriptions had three (54.4%) and two (24.29%) drugs. it may prove to be a wonderful resource for healthcare professionals in the rationale use of medicine and cost-benefit analysis. Limitations are the single site study, the small sample size, and the brief study duration.
