Abstract
This study reports a novel result on the effect of strain-induced superficial phase transformation on the mitigating hydrogen embrittlement of an austenitic high Mn steel. The obtained results revealed that the strain-induced ε -martensite on the surface of the sample significantly reduced adsorbed hydrogen and elongation loss which was ascribed to the lower diffusivity of hydrogen in ε -martensite compared with austenite.
