•Biodrying converted lignocellulosic biomass to fertilizer within 8 days.•C/N ratio of 20 obtained the fertilizer with a GI of 119% and a HIX of 3.2.•Total humic acid carbon content of C1 reached 60.5 mg/g.•Abundance of functional microbes (i.e., Pseudogracilibacillus) was enhanced.
