摘要
The role of herbal preparations in ameliorating neurodegenerative disorders has been increasing due to their significant contribution towards health, wellness and therapy. The aim of the present study was to evaluate effect of ethanolic extract of Moringa concanensis nimmo (EEMC), ethanolic extract of Sesbania grandiflora (EESG) and their combination (MCSG-CE) prepared using 1:1 ratio of their ethanolic extracts for their neuroprotective effect against 6-Hydroxy dopamine (6-OHDA) induced parkinsonism in rats. Wistar albino rats were allocated into 8 groups (n = 6) and treated as follows: Gp-I: Vehicle control- 1% v/v Tween 80; Gp-II: Positive control- 6-OHDA (8μg/2μl/rat); Gp- III: 6-OHDA+levodopa (6mg/kg, p.o); Gp-IV: 6-OHDA+EEMC-I (100 mg/kg, p.o.); Gp-V: 6-OHDA+EEMC-II (200 mg/kg, p.o.) and Gp-VI: 6-OHDA+ EESG-I (100 mg/kg, p.o.); Group-VII: 6-OHDA+EESG-II (200 mg/kg, p.o.) and Gp-VIII: 6-OHDA+MCSG-CE (100 mg/kg, p.o.). All the animals were exposed to respective treatments for seven days after disease induction and then subjected to catalepsy (forelimb placing) test, Rotarod test and Morris-water maze test. The treated groups exhibited significant activity in reducing the catalepsy severity score, increasing the fall-off time and decrease in the escape latency time. The findings of this study indicated that Moringa concanensis and Sesbania grandiflora exhibit remarkable neuroprotective potential and ameliorate major symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. Keywords: Parkinson’s Disease, 6-Hydroxy dopamine, Catalepsy, Moringa concanensis, Sesbania grandiflora.
