Cognitive Work Analysis (CWA)

Cognitive Work Analysis (CWA) is a systems thinking framework comprising five phases that can be used together or independently for systems analysis and design purposes. This chapter provides an overview of the CWA framework and associated methods followed by step-by-step guidance on how to apply them. The main advantages and disadvantages of applying the framework and methods are described along with any related methods, training and application times, reliability and validity evidence, and recommended reading. A case study analysis focused on advanced autonomous vehicles is used to demonstrate the method and its outputs.
