Clinical Experience With Non-invasive Prenatal Screening for Single-Gene Disorders

First described in 1997, the presence of cell-free fetal DNA in maternal plasma has been increasingly used in the last decade for cell-free DNA (cfDNA)-based noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) thanks to advances in molecular genetic technology. This method, now commonly used in the detection of fetal chromosomal abnormalities, can test for a variety of conditions.
