Effects of bottom profile on the circulation and classification of particles in cylindrical hydrocyclones

•Eight novel bottom profiles of cylindrical hydrocyclone are designed.•Bottom profiles affect the grade efficiency of intermediate and coarse particles.•The particle content in the circulation flow can be altered by the bottom profile.•Separation performance can be improved by controlling particle circulation flow.
