General theory: drill-bit seismic sources

Chapter 4 (General theory: drill-bit seismic sources) – In this chapter we calculate the vibrations produced by drilling bits. The analysis is done for roller-cone and polycrystalline diamond compact (pdc) bits and includes anomalous drilling conditions. Performances of drill-bit and conventional seismic sources are compared. In this edition, the parts on the behavior of the drill-bit rotary and percussion source have been expanded, with the analysis of wideband sources, laboratory and field tests.
