The links between lack of physical activity and unhealthy diet on overweight and obesity remain well documented, and the burden of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) will likely increase from 2020 to 2050 if nothing changes. Conversely, potential reductions in overweight and obesity from 2020 to 2050 have the potential to substantially improve overall health and reduce the NCD burden, with only modest changes in diet and physical activity. A reduction of 20 percent in overweight and obesity could potentially avert 49,907 and 82,834 deaths for females and males, respectively, by 2050.
