An Outlook on Clinical Trials of Nutraceuticals and Dietary Supplements on Maternal and Fetal Health

The demand for nutraceuticals and dietary supplements is on a rise around the globe, especially when maternal and fetal health is concerned. Natural products are most abundantly found, budget-friendly, and possess the least side effects when compared to allopathic medicines. This chapter deals with the most commonly used natural medicines including folic acid, Vitamin D, sulforaphane, melatonin, inositol, resveratrol, garlic, stinging nettle, and so on for promoting maternal and fetal health. In addition, concerns about the status of clinical studies that could prove their efficacy and safety are discussed. In summarizing that more clinical studies need to be performed to give a clear outlook of these herbal medicines so that the medical practitioners could get ample guidelines on the use of nutraceuticals and dietary supplements on maternal and fetal health.
